Smell Detectives

Ages3–7
TimeAbout 15 min
MessTidy

You need

  • 4–5 small cups with foil on top, poked with holes
  • Smelly things: lemon peel, vanilla on a cotton ball, cinnamon, orange, coffee

Let's play

  1. Put one smelly thing in each cup and cover it with foil.
  2. Poke a few holes so the smell can escape.
  3. Sniff each cup. Is it sweet, sour or spicy? What could it be?
  4. Match each cup to a picture or to the real thing.
Grown-up tip: Use only food smells, and teach kids to waft the smell gently toward their nose.
