You need

  • Celery stalks with leaves
  • Clear cups of water
  • Food coloring

Let's play

  1. Fill cups with water and add lots of food coloring.
  2. Put a celery stalk in each cup.
  3. Guess: what will happen to the leaves?
  4. Check the next day. The color climbs up the stem to the leaves!
Grown-up tip: Cut the stalk across afterward to see the little colored dots: they’re the "straws".
