How we chose these topics
Social studies for little kids starts with "me" and grows outward: feelings, family, friends, school rules, community helpers, places in town, maps, money, long ago and the wider world. The topics follow the C3 Framework strands for grades K–2 (civics, economics, geography and history) and the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (sense of identity and belonging, relationships and emotional growth).
Every family looks different, and our people come in many skin tones and family shapes so every child can see themselves. Each topic page lists the standards it supports.
